Schluter Driveway & Pavers: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
Schluter driveway and paver systems in Orlando typically run $7,000 to $18,000 installed for a standard two-car driveway, depending on paver style, base prep depth, and drainage work. We stock Schluter-compatible paver edging, drainage profiles, and transition strips on our trucks, so most component swaps happen same-day once we confirm the profile match. How owners usually find us: a paver edge has popped loose after a heavy storm, water is pooling against the garage slab, or the transition strip between driveway and walkway has pulled away from the substrate.
Here’s the thing about Orlando paver failures: the paver itself rarely fails. What fails is the restraint system around it. Schluter’s profiles do the holding, and when they fail, the pavers follow.
Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Schluter’s exterior line covers three families you’ll see on Orlando driveways: TROBA, BARA, and SCHIENE. TROBA is the drainage mat that sits under pavers on slab-on-grade applications. BARA is the edge restraint that keeps paver borders from wandering. SCHIENE is the metal transition profile where paver meets concrete, garage slab, or sidewalk. Each comes in different heights and flange widths, and here’s the compatibility gotcha: a BARA profile ordered for a 60mm paver will not properly restrain a 40mm paver, and you can’t shim it into spec. We measure the paver thickness and profile height on site before ordering anything.
Sawyer Remodel Orlando is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Schluter. We install and stock Schluter-compatible parts because they hold up in Florida conditions, but we also carry quality aftermarket equivalents where the spec is identical and the lead time is shorter. For most Orlando homeowners, OEM matters most on drainage mats (TROBA) where material composition affects long-term mold and mildew resistance. On edge restraints and transition profiles, a matched aftermarket profile performs the same and costs 20 to 30 percent less.

Signs Your Schluter Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers shifting at the border. When the BARA edge restraint loosens or corrodes, the outermost pavers start drifting outward, and the gap grows slowly over one or two Orlando rainy seasons.
- Water pooling against the garage slab. A failed or clogged TROBA drainage mat stops moving water away from the slab, and you’ll see standing water after a normal afternoon thunderstorm, not just a hurricane.
- Rust staining at transition strips. SCHIENE profiles in exterior applications pick up water exposure from sprinkler overspray and humidity. Orange staining at the screw line means the profile is corroding and losing its grip on the substrate.
- A loose metal strip at the driveway-to-walkway joint. You’ll hear it rattle when you wheel a trash bin over it. That strip is doing zero waterproofing once it’s separated from the bonding layer.
- Weeds or grass growing through paver seams. This signals the base layer has shifted and the restraint system is no longer holding compression. In Orlando, torpedo grass will find any seam that opens more than an eighth inch.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

If you’re replacing a failed component rather than the whole driveway, here’s what Orlando pricing looks like:
- Edge restraint (BARA-style) replacement: $400 to $1,100 depending on linear feet and whether we’re resetting pavers after the swap.
- Transition strip (SCHIENE-style) replacement: $300 to $800 including removal of the corroded profile, surface prep, and mechanical fastening.
- Drainage mat (TROBA-style) repair under a section of pavers: $600 to $1,800 because pavers have to come up, the old mat comes out, and the base gets re-compacted before anything goes back.
- Full paver driveway with Schluter-compatible profiles and drainage: $7,000 to $18,000 as noted above, driven mostly by paver choice (concrete pavers at the low end, travertine or porcelain at the high end) and how much base reconstruction the existing grade demands.
Every quote is itemized in writing before work starts. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. We don’t do change orders unless you change the scope. All our driveway and paver work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things safely: look for visible rust at the transition strip fasteners, note where water pools after rain, and run a hose along the paver border to see if water flows through or over the edge restraint. That tells you if the drainage path is compromised.
What you should not do is pry up a corroded transition strip with a flat bar while the driveway is active. The strip is mechanically fastened into concrete or substrate, and prying it releases tension that can send the profile edge up into your hand or face. We’ve seen worse injuries from people trying to save a few hundred dollars on transition profile work. Paver reset also looks easy until you’re dealing with base compaction and slope correction, and Orlando’s sandy soil means improper compaction shows up as sinking pavers within the first year. If any part of this involves a profile that’s under tension or a base layer that has shifted, call us at (850) 809-0306.
FAQs

In Orlando’s heat, humidity, and daily summer rain, well-installed Schluter-compatible profiles typically last 10 to 15 years. The first thing that fails is usually the transition strip at the concrete joint, because it takes the most thermal cycling from direct sun.
Yes, in most cases we remove the failed restraint, reset the border pavers, install the correct profile, and re-compact the edge. Full driveway replacement is only necessary when the base layer itself has shifted or washed out. Call (850) 809-0306 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Most component replacements are done in a single visit, usually 2 to 5 hours depending on linear footage and whether we have to reset pavers. We confirm the exact profile match before we schedule, so the truck shows up with the right part.
We stock common BARA-style edge restraints, SCHIENE-style transition strips, and TROBA drainage profiles in the standard heights for Orlando driveway applications. If you need a non-standard size, we can source it same week. Beyond Schluter systems, we also stock parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria countertops, and Silestone surfaces on the remodeling side.
If your driveway pavers are moving, your transition strip is loose, or water is pooling where it shouldn’t, call (850) 809-0306. Luca and the crew will come out, figure out what failed, and put a written price in your hands before any work starts. Good work doesn’t need a speech, it just needs to hold up.
