PGT Windows & Doors: The Orlando Owner's Guide
Most PGT windows and doors in Orlando fail one component at a time, not all at once. A fogged insulated glass unit, a worn roller assembly on a sliding door, a sagging hinge on a casement window, or a brittle weather seal that lets summer humidity through. In our experience, a PGT window or door replacement part runs $180 to $700 installed, depending on what failed and which PGT series you own. If you're in Orlando and a PGT component is failing, here's how to match the part, price it honestly, and get it fixed so the next hurricane season isn't a gamble.
How much does PGT window or door repair cost in Orlando?
Plan on $180 to $340 for common components like rollers, locks, weather stripping, and sash balances on PGT windows and doors in the Orlando market. Larger parts, like a full insulated glass unit or a replacement sill track, run $300 to $700 depending on glass size, Low-E coating, and whether the frame is aluminum or vinyl. We don't quote over the phone without seeing the unit, because PGT made dozens of series and the wrong guess costs you money.
| Part Type | Typical Installed Range (Orlando) |
|---|---|
| Sliding door roller assembly (pair) | $180 – $290 |
| Window sash balance or spiral balance | $160 – $260 |
| Multi-point locking hardware | $220 – $400 |
| Weather stripping / seal replacement | $140 – $240 |
| Insulated glass unit (IGU) replacement | $350 – $700 |
| Full window or door replacement | $4,500 – $25,000 (see Replacement Cost) |

Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT has manufactured several series over the years, and Orlando homes built from the early 2000s through today carry a mix of them. The main ones we work on across the city include the WinGuard impact line, the Spectrum vinyl line, the Series 700/800 aluminum windows, and the earlier Premier vinyl line. Each series has its own balance hardware, roller specs, and extrusion profiles, so a part from a Series 700 won't drop into a Spectrum window frame without modification.
The fastest way to identify your PGT part is to look at the glass etch or label in the corner of the frame. PGT laser-etches a manufacturing code into the glass on most windows made after 2005. That code tells us the plant, the date, and the series. If the label is gone or painted over, we measure the glass thickness and frame dimensions on site. On sliding doors, the roller housing width and wheel diameter are the critical measurements. On casement and awning windows, the hinge arm length and mounting pattern matter more than anything.
One compatibility gotcha we see often in Orlando: PGT changed its roller housing design around 2012 on the WinGuard sliding door line. Homeowners order what looks like the identical roller online and it's 3 millimeters too wide for the track. That's the difference between a door that slides like new and a door that binds on day one.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: we install OEM PGT parts when they're available and price-competitive. For high-wear items like rollers and weather stripping, we often recommend the aftermarket equivalent from a supplier we trust, because the material is identical or better and the price is usually 20 to 30 percent lower. For structural components like hinge arms, lock mechanisms, and impact-rated glass, we stay OEM. No exception. The last thing an Orlando homeowner needs is a bargain hinge arm on a window that has to hold up to 140 mile-per-hour wind loads.

AfterSigns Your PGT Windows & Doors Is Failing

- Fog or condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit has lost its seal. That means the argon or krypton gas fill is gone and the Low-E coating is now exposed to Florida humidity. It won't dry out on its own. In Orlando, this is the most common PGT failure we see.
- Sliding door drags or catches on the track. The roller wheels are flat-spotted or the bearings have seized. On PGT doors, salt air and fine sand from Orlando's lime-rock soil get into the roller housing and grind the nylon wheels down. If you hear a scraping noise when you open the door, the rollers are done.
- Window sash won't stay up. The spiral balance or block-and-tackle balance inside the sash has lost tension. On PGT vinyl windows, the balance cartridge is a sealed unit. You can't re-tension it. You replace it.
- Lock or latch requires force to engage. The multi-point lock mechanism on PGT doors and casement windows has internal gearing that wears over time. Forcing it only strips the gear teeth further. If the handle moves more than it used to or the lock scrapes when you turn it, the mechanism is on its way out.
- Visible light gap at the bottom or top of a closed door. The weather seal has compressed, torn, or dry-rotted. In an Orlando summer, that gap is enough to let moist air into your conditioned space, and your AC pays the bill.
Replacement Cost & What's Included
For a full PGT window replacement in Orlando, expect $4,500 to $15,000 for a standard single-family home, depending on how many windows and whether you stay with impact-rated glass. Full impact-rated PGT window and door packages can reach $8,000 to $25,000. That is a heavy investment, and before you spend that, it's worth knowing whether a $200 part fixes the problem. In many cases, it does.
What drives the cost on a part-level repair: the PGT series you own (older or discontinued lines mean a more expensive or harder-to-source part), the size of the glass unit, whether the part is OEM or aftermarket, and the condition of the surrounding frame. If the frame is water-damaged or out of square, the labor goes up because we fix the opening before we install the part. Our price is line-item and in writing. The number you approve before the work starts is the number on the invoice. Every parts repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails or the repair wasn't done right within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Some PGT repairs are genuinely simple. Replacing a torn weather strip or cleaning out a roller track is something you can do with basic tools and twenty minutes. If the glass is intact, the frame is solid, and the part is a visible seal or a dirty track, go ahead. What you should not touch: any spring-loaded balance system, any multi-point lock mechanism, and any insulated glass unit. The balance systems are under high tension and can snap back hard enough to break fingers. The lock mechanisms have internal timing gears that must align exactly or the lock fails. The IGUs are sealed units requiring a glass supplier and proper setting techniques. If you're in Orlando and you're not sure whether a repair is safe to attempt, call (850) 809-0306 and we'll walk you through what you're looking at. Sometimes the answer is "go ahead, that's a five-minute fix." We'll tell you that too.
FAQs

In Orlando, PGT vinyl windows typically last 20 to 30 years, while PGT aluminum windows often go 30 to 40. The first components to fail are almost always the moving parts: rollers, balances, and weather seals, usually in the 10 to 15-year range. The glass itself rarely fails unless the seal breaks or the unit takes a direct hit.
Weather stripping and track alignment can often be repaired without new parts. Rollers, balances, hinges, and lock mechanisms cannot be reliably repaired, because the internal components are sealed or precision-fit. Once these parts show failure symptoms, replacement is the honest fix. Call (850) 809-0306 if you want us to confirm what you actually need — we'll give it to you straight.
Most single-component replacements take 45 minutes to 2 hours once the part is in hand. Lead time depends on whether the part is in stock locally or needs to ship from PGT. We keep common PGT rollers, balances, lock mechanisms, and weather seals on the truck for same-trip replacement on many Orlando homes.
We stock the high-wear PGT parts that fail most often in Orlando: sliding door rollers, sash balances, multi-point lock mechanisms, and weather stripping for the WinGuard, Spectrum, and Series 700/800 lines. Less common parts and insulated glass units are special-ordered, usually within 5 to 10 business days. We also carry parts for other brands we service, including KraftMaid cabinets, and Cambria and Silestone surface products.
