Therma-Tru Windows & Doors: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Therma-Tru-compatible windows and doors across Orlando, with most replacement parts running $150 – $650 installed depending on the component and your specific series. If you’ve got a door that sticks, a window that’s fogged between the panes, or weatherstripping that’s peeling away after a few humid Florida summers, we can usually match the part to your model and have it handled the same week. Most Orlando homeowners discover a failed Therma-Tru part the hard way: the door suddenly won’t latch, the sill is soft underfoot, or the window won’t stay open without a prop.
What catches people off guard is how one failing part takes down others. A worn bottom sweep lets moisture sit against the threshold, which rots the frame, which throws the door out of square, which kills the latch. The good news is Therma-Tru parts are still very identifiable if you know where to look, and that’s where we come in.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru produces three main door families: Classic-Craft (fiberglass, wood-like grain), Smooth-Star (smooth fiberglass, usually the budget-friendly line), and Pulse (polyurethane foam core, middle of the road on price). Their windows come primarily through the associate brands they’ve built or acquired over the years, including the sliding patio door lines. The compatibility gotcha every Orlando homeowner should know: Classic-Craft and Smooth-Star do not share interchangeable weatherstripping kits, even when the doors look identical at a glance. The sweep, the top cap, even the threshold profiles differ by series.
Here’s how to identify what you have. Open the door 90 degrees and look at the hinge edge. Therma-Tru stamps a label there on most models built after 2005, listing the series and sometimes the manufacture date. On windows, check the spacer bar inside the glass itself. If it’s black and fully smooth, you’re likely looking at an original Therma-Tru sealed unit. If it’s silver or notched with little holes, it’s an aftermarket replacement someone put in later. That detail matters because we order glass packs by the exact thickness of the original insulated unit, and being off by a 16th of an inch means the sash won’t seat right in an Orlando afternoon thunderstorm. For most homeowners, OEM Therma-Tru components are worth the small premium. Aftermarket equivalents exist for sweeps, thresholds, and weatherstripping, but they rarely match the fit of factory parts on Classic-Craft door bottoms.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Door won’t latch without lifting the handle or slamming. The frame has shifted or the threshold has settled, usually from moisture cycling underneath. In Orlando’s wet-dry-wet seasons, wood sub-frames expand and contract constantly. If you’re lifting the door to get it to close, the hinges are wearing fast and the strike plate is grinding against the bolt.
- Fog or condensation between the panes. The sealed glass unit has failed. Once the desiccant inside the spacer bar is saturated, no amount of Florida sun will clear that fog. It means the insulated unit has lost its argon or krypton gas fill, and the window’s energy rating is effectively gone.
- Visible daylight under the door. The sweep is shot or the threshold cap has separated. This is the most common Therma-Tru failure we see in Orlando, and it’s also the easiest fix. You lose conditioned air constantly, ants and palmetto bugs march right in, and your electric bill climbs every month it goes ignored.
- Soft spot on the sill or door bottom. Water has been wicking into the fiberglass shell or the door bottom rail. Therma-Tru doors resist rot better than wood, but the sills and brickmould can still hold water in a rainy Orlando July. Tap it with a screwdriver handle. If it sounds dull and soft, you’ve got a problem.
- Weatherstripping peeling, cracked, or flattened. The Q-Lon weatherstrip on Therma-Tru doors usually lasts about six to eight years in Florida heat and humidity. Once it’s flat, it’s not sealing anything. You’ll feel warm air leaking around the door edges on a hot afternoon, and more road noise from outside.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In the Orlando market, individual Therma-Tru parts and small repair installs fall into clear ranges. A bottom sweep replacement runs about $65 – $150 including the part and labor. Weatherstripping for a full door perimeter lands at $120 – $250. Threshold replacements, depending on the series and width, go for $225 – $475. A full sealed glass unit replacement in a Therma-Tru window or patio door runs $350 – $650, and full door slab replacement spans $600 – $1,800 depending on the model line and hardware.
| Therma-Tru Part or Service | Price Range (Installed, Orlando) |
|---|---|
| Door bottom sweep replacement | $65 – $150 |
| Full perimeter weatherstripping | $120 – $250 |
| Threshold replacement | $225 – $475 |
| Sealed glass unit replacement (window or patio door) | $350 – $650 |
| Full door slab replacement | $600 – $1,800 |
Every one of those prices is a written, line-item quote before we start, and the number on the invoice is the number you approved. No change orders when we find the old threshold is glued down harder than expected. That’s what the initial measurement visit is for. We also keep our 365-Day Done Right Promise on every Therma-Tru part we install: if it fails within the first year, we come back and make it right at no charge. If the repair itself fails, the second visit is free too, no argument.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely check before calling. First, look at the bottom of the door and see if a rubber or vinyl sweep is missing chunks or sitting crooked. Second, run your hand around the closed door on a hot Orlando afternoon. If you feel warm air pushing in near the hinges or the handle side, the weatherstripping is done. Both are honest indicators of what’s failing.
Where DIY goes wrong is when people try to replace a threshold or re-hang a Therma-Tru door they think just needs new screws. A threshold on a fiberglass entry door is not a universal part from the orange store. The cap profiles differ by series, the height has to be shimmed to match the existing sill pan, and getting it wrong means water runs under the door instead of away from it. Same with sealed glass units. If you don’t know the exact spacer thickness and low-E coating stack, you’ll buy a unit that fits the hole and fails again in three years. Call us at (850) 809-0306 and we’ll handle the parts matching.
FAQs

A properly installed Therma-Tru fiberglass door lasts 25 to 30 years in Central Florida, but wear parts like sweeps and weatherstripping need replacing every six to eight years. Windows in the same climate run about 15 to 20 years before sealed units start fogging. Call (850) 809-0306 if yours is showing age sooner than that.
Most Therma-Tru entry doors can be repaired without replacing the slab. Latch issues, worn sweeps, failed thresholds, and stripped hinge screws are all fixable in place, usually in under two hours. Replacement only makes sense when the fiberglass shell is cracked through or water has rotted the door bottom.
Most single-part replacements like a sweep or weatherstripping take one to two hours on site, after we’ve already measured and confirmed the part. Sealed glass units take a bit longer because the glass packs are often ordered to spec, so expect a few days between the measuring visit and the install.
We keep the most common Therma-Tru wear parts on the truck, sweeps, Q-Lon weatherstripping, threshold caps, and hinge hardware, plus we order OEM parts for Classic-Craft and Smooth-Star models as needed. You never have to source your own parts. Call (850) 809-0306 and we’ll handle the match.
Get Your Therma-Tru Door or Window Fixed the Right Way
If your Therma-Tru door is sticking, leaking air, or not latching, call (850) 809-0306. We’ll set up a time to measure, match the part, and give you a written price before any work starts. That’s how we’ve run things since 2005, and it’s the same standard we bring to every door, window, kitchen, and bath project in Orlando. We also work with parts and materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on larger remodels, so if this door fix turns into something bigger, we’re ready. Good work doesn’t need a speech, it just needs to hold up.
