Cover Windows & Doors: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cover-compatible windows and doors across Orlando, with most replacement parts running $200 to $1,800 installed depending on the component, and full window or door replacement typically landing between $4,500 and $15,000. Most owners discover something’s wrong the way you did: a window that suddenly won’t stay open, a door that drags against the frame, or a lock that needs a fight every time. Here’s what’s actually going on and what it takes to fix it right.

Orlando’s humidity and afternoon thunderstorms do a number on window and door hardware. Seals that survived years in a dry climate will soften and split here within a few seasons. The good news: most Cover window and door failures are component-level, not full-unit replacements, which means you’re usually looking at a repair, not a tear-out.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover windows and doors come in a few distinct lines, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The quickest way to identify your model: open the sash or door panel and look for a small white or silver sticker on the frame edge. It’ll show a serial number and a model code, usually two or three letters followed by digits. Take a photo of it before you call anyone, including us.

The most common Cover windows we see in Orlando are the single-hung and horizontal slider lines, both popular in newer construction across neighborhoods like Lake Nona, Winter Park, and Dr. Phillips. Door-wise, it’s the sliding patio door that shows up most often in Orlando homes built after 2015. That’s the one where the rollers flatten out and the door starts grinding against the track, especially after a wet summer.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Cover changed its balance and roller hardware specs in 2021. Pre-2021 windows use a thicker shoe on the balance assembly, and the new cartridges don’t seat correctly in older frames. We keep both versions on the truck. If you’re ordering parts yourself, don’t rely on the window’s outward appearance; use the sticker code. We’ve seen too many Orlando homeowners order the cleanest-looking replacement online only to find it doesn’t fit the track.

On OEM versus aftermarket: for springs, balances, and rollers, a quality aftermarket part from a supplier we vet is often as good or better than the Cover-branded piece, and it costs 20 to 30 percent less. For anything that involves the glass unit itself or the multipoint lock assembly, we use OEM. That’s where fit tolerance gets tight and a substitute can leave you with a door that never quite seals right in Orlando’s rainy season.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Window won’t stay up without a prop. That’s a failed balance assembly. The spring inside has lost tension or the shoe has cracked. In Orlando, the summer heat accelerates the plastic housing fatigue that causes this.
  • Sash is hard to lift or feels like it’s sticking. Usually the track is packed with dirt and degraded weatherstripping. Over time the friction strips the balance and then the window becomes a two-hand job.
  • Sliding door grinds or skips when you open it. The rollers underneath are the culprit. Florida humidity rusts the steel bearings, and once they stop rolling, they start scraping. You’ll hear it before you see it.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. That’s a failed insulated glass unit seal. You can’t wipe it off because it’s inside. In Orlando’s alternating wet-dry climate, these seals fail faster than in most of the country, and once they go, the window loses its thermal value.
  • Draft you can feel around the closed sash or door edge. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. When it’s gone, your AC bill in Orlando notices before you do, because you’re effectively cooling the outdoors through the gap.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this you can do safely. Cleaning tracks, adjusting a strike plate, or replacing a torn strip of adhesive-backed weatherstripping are all reasonable Saturday-morning jobs. We’ll tell you straight: if that’s all your window needs, don’t pay us to do it.

What you shouldn’t touch: balance assemblies and any spring-loaded hardware. These are under tension, and when they release wrong, they take fingers with them. The same goes for tempered glass units and multipoint locks that need realignment. If the sash is heavy, the spring is loaded, or the glass is cracked, leave it. Luca Romano has seen enough DIY attempts where someone saved $150 on a repair call and spent the afternoon at urgent care instead. Good work doesn’t need a speech, it just needs to hold up, and sometimes holding up means knowing when the work is above your pay grade.

If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us at (850) 809-0306 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a safe DIY task or a job for a uniformed technician who shows up with the right part already loaded.
