Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
Oldcastle bathroom remodeling in Orlando typically runs $9,000 – $28,000 installed, depending on the scope, materials, and whether we’re rebuilding a wet wall or swapping finishes. We stock common Oldcastle-compatible components on our trucks and can usually start within a week of your estimate. Most Orlando homeowners discover they need this page when a shower valve starts leaking behind the wall, a corner shelf pulls loose, or the original stall pan develops hairline cracks that wick water into the subfloor.
Sawyer Remodel Orlando is an independent remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Oldcastle. That said, we’ve torn out and rebuilt enough Oldcastle shower bases, surrounds, and accessory kits across Orlando to know exactly what holds up in Florida humidity and what doesn’t.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle’s bathroom product lines have shifted names over the years. The most common units we see in Orlando homes fall into three buckets: the Standard Shower Stall series (single-piece fibreglass or acrylic bases with molded surrounds, usually 32″ x 32″ or 36″ x 36″), the Barrier-Free / Roll-In series (common in Orlando’s 55+ communities and ranch homes), and the Multi-Piece Surround kits that builders put in tract homes during the 1990s and 2000s. Each series uses different drain rough-in dimensions, so matching the right base to the existing plumbing matters. A roll-in base typically requires a 2″ drain line and a specific slope tolerance; a standard stall often has a 1-1/2″ line. Get that wrong and the base sits wrong or drains slow.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Oldcastle changed the corner seat and shelf mounting pattern between the 2008 and 2014 manufacturing runs. If your surround has a round drain and quarter-round corner shelves, you need the earlier accessory kit. Square drain, flatter shelves? Later run. You can verify by checking the molded lot code on the back side of the base, but that means pulling the unit. If you’re not sure, send us a photo of the drain cover and shelf edge and we’ll tell you what you’re looking at before you spend a dime. For OEM vs aftermarket: Oldcastle-branded replacement bases are available through plumbing supply houses in Orlando, but lead times run 2 – 4 weeks. Quality aftermarket pans from companies like Mustee and Swanstone often fit the same footprint with equal or better finish, and we can usually have one on-site within days. OEM matters most when you’re matching an insurance claim; aftermarket usually wins when you want the job done this month.

Signs Your Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft spots in the pan floor. Fibreglass pans flex over time. When the core separates from the gelcoat, the floor gives underfoot. That flex is the first stage of a crack, and Orlando’s humidity accelerates the delamination. Left alone, it lets water into the subfloor and you’re into structural repairs.
- Hairline cracks radiating from the drain. This is the classic Oldcastle failure we see in Orlando homes built in the late 90s and early 2000s. The pan wasn’t bedded in mortar originally, so the unsupported span around the drain flange takes every footfall. Cracks there mean water is already getting under the base.
- Rust-colored streaks below the corner shelves. The shelf brackets were plated, not stainless, on several Oldcastle production years. Once the plating fails, the brackets rust, the stain runs down the surround, and eventually the shelf drops.
- Musty smell that never clears. That’s trapped moisture behind the surround or under the pan. In Orlando’s climate, it’s almost always a slow leak at the drain gasket or a failed caulk joint at the surround seam. By the time you smell it, the mold has a head start.
- Surround pulling away from the drywall at the top edge. The adhesive Oldcastle used on older multi-piece kits breaks down in humid bathrooms. When you see a 1/8″ gap opening between the surround and the wall, moisture is running down the back side every shower.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Our bathroom remodeling work in Orlando runs from $9,000 for a straightforward stall rebuild to $28,000 for a full wet-bath with structural repairs. Most Oldcastle-specific replacements we quote in Orlando land between $9,000 and $16,000. Here’s the line-item view, because you shouldn’t have to call just to know if this is in your ballpark:
- Base or pan replacement only: $9,000 – $14,000 (demo, drain fitting, new pan, re-install)
- Stall rebuild with new surround and base: $12,000 – $18,000 (included: mortar bed, new drain assembly, waterproofing, tile-adjacent finish)
- Full wet-bath remodel around the Oldcastle footprint: $16,000 – $28,000 (includes project-specific fixtures, floor, and finish work beyond the shower)
The biggest cost drivers are what’s hiding behind the unit: rotted subfloor, cast-iron drain lines in Orlando’s older bungalow stock, and whether the original pan was properly bedded. We include all demo, disposal, materials, and labor in the written price. You’ll see the final number in writing before we touch a single tool under The Relay Visibility Guarantee, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise means if something isn’t done right, we make it right within a year of project close. No charge for a second visit if the repair fails.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the diagnostic side: check for soft spots, look for cracking around the drain, and send us photos of the drain cover and shelf edge so we can ID your Oldcastle series. That part costs you nothing and helps us show up with the right parts on the truck. What you shouldn’t DIY is pulling the pan. The drain connection on Oldcastle bases is a clamped compression fitting under tension. One wrong move with a wrench on an aged flange and you’ve cracked the pan beyond repair or broken the drain pipe in the wall. That’s a $9,000 remodel turning into a $20,000 remodel and a wet ceiling below. If the pan is cracked or the surround is pulling away, call us at (850) 809-0306. We’ll quote it straight and you can decide from there.
FAQs

Realistically, 8 – 15 years in Florida humidity. Original 1990s and early 2000s Oldcastle pans that weren’t bedded in mortar often fail closer to the 8 – 10 year mark. A correctly bedded replacement pan with a quality drain assembly should run 15+ years without issue. Call (850) 809-0306 for an exact quote on your unit.
No. Fibreglass crack repairs on shower pans are temporary, and in Orlando’s wet conditions the patch typically delaminates within 6 – 12 months. The only repair that holds is replacing the pan and bedding it properly this time. We’ve done enough of these in College Park and Winter Park to know that a patch is just a delay, not a fix. Call (850) 809-0306 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you what you’re actually looking at.
Most Oldcastle base replacements take 1 – 2 days on-site. A full stall rebuild runs 3 – 5 days depending on subfloor condition. We’ll give you a written timeline before work starts, and under The Relay Visibility Guarantee you get live arrival tracking and before-and-after photo updates so you’re never wondering who’s showing up or what’s happening in your bathroom.
We keep common Oldcastle-compatible corner shelves, drain assemblies, and trim kits on our Orlando trucks. Base pans and surrounds are ordered per your lot code, usually arriving within a few days. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone materials when you want to upgrade the rest of the bathroom while we’re in there. Call (850) 809-0306 and we’ll check stock before you book.
