Sterling Fence Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

Sterling fence installation in Orlando typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full replacement, depending on linear footage, style, and whether we’re pulling old concrete footers. We stock common Sterling-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate hardware, and we can usually match your existing line without waiting on a special order. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a gate suddenly drags, a post leans after a summer storm, or a section of pickets starts pulling free from the rail and won’t sit right no matter how many screws get driven back in.

Sterling makes a solid vinyl and aluminum fence line, but Florida weather doesn’t do anyone any favors. Hurricane-season winds, afternoon thunderstorms, and sandy soil that shifts with the water table all work against fence systems over time. The good news is that most failures are predictable, and we’ve seen enough Sterling product in Orlando neighborhoods like College Park, Conway, and Waterford Lakes to know exactly what holds up and what doesn’t.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s residential fence line breaks into two broad families: vinyl privacy and semi-privacy panels, and aluminum picket styles. The vinyl side includes their standard 6-foot privacy panels with tongue-and-groove pickets, plus the shorter 4-foot decorative styles you’ll see around front yards and pool enclosures. The aluminum side runs from basic 4-foot residential pickets up to heavier commercial-grade 6-foot styles with pressed spear tops.

The gotcha with Sterling vinyl is post size and wall thickness. Sterling uses 5×5 posts on most privacy styles, not the 4×4 you’ll find on cheaper big-box fence. If a handyman quotes you a 4×4 post replacement because “it’s all the same,” you’ll end up shimming the difference and the gate hinges will never align. We match the actual profile: 5×5 external posts, 2×3.5 rails, and the specific picket width your line was built with. Sterling also changed their gate hinge design around 2018, so if your fence predates that, we order the older hinge style rather than forcing the new one into a hole pattern it doesn’t fit.

On the aluminum side, Sterling powder-coats their rails and pickets in a thicker finish than most off-brand panels. That matters in Orlando humidity, where cheap aluminum starts showing white oxidation within three or four years. If we’re replacing a section, we match the coating spec, not just the color.

As for OEM versus aftermarket: for structural posts and rails, we recommend OEM Sterling or an equivalent-spec replacement. For pickets and caps, quality aftermarket vinyl from the same extrusion profile is usually fine and costs less. Sawyer Remodel Orlando is an independent contractor, not a Sterling dealer, so we’re not married to their parts list when a better option exists at the same quality.

Signs Your Sterling Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning post at the gate or corner. This is the most common failure we see in Orlando. Sandy, fast-draining soil doesn’t hold concrete footers the way clay does, and a post that leans more than an inch or two means the footer has let go underground. Tightening the gate won’t fix it; the post has to be reset.
  • Gate drags or won’t latch. When a vinyl gate drags, the frame has typically racked because the hinge post moved. On aluminum, check the hinge screws first; stripped screw holes in the post are a classic sign the gate has been adjusted too many times and the metal is wallowed out.
  • Pickets pulling free from the bottom rail. Vinyl expands and contracts with heat, and Orlando’s summer sun pushes surface temperatures over 140 degrees. Over time, the picket tongues inside the bottom rail can crack at the screw line, and the pickets start flapping. One or two is a repair; a dozen or more means that rail section is done.
  • White chalk or powder on aluminum rails. That’s the powder coat breaking down. Once moisture gets under the finish, the oxidation spreads. You can clean it, but it returns, and eventually the aluminum pits. If your fence is older than eight to ten years, we usually recommend replacing the affected section rather than chasing it.
  • Fence line sags between posts. On vinyl, this means the rails have warped from heat and loss of tension. On aluminum, it typically means the rail screws have loosened or stripped in the post brackets. Either way, the fix is usually a rail replacement, not a patch.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Orlando, a full Sterling-style fence installation runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed. The spread comes down to footage, material choice, post removal difficulty, and gate count. Here’s the honest breakdown:

Scope Installed Price Range
Single vinyl section repair (2-3 panels, one post reset) $600 – $1,200
Gate replacement with new hardware and post reinforcement $800 – $1,800
Partial fence replacement (50-75 linear feet, vinyl) $2,500 – $4,500
Full Sterling-style vinyl fence installation (150-200 linear feet) $4,500 – $8,000
Full aluminum fence installation (150-200 linear feet) $5,000 – $9,000

Everything we quote is a written, line-item price before work starts. That number includes removing old sections, hauling debris, fresh concrete for post resets, hardware, and cleanup. If we hit a buried surprise, like an old footer that’s three feet deep from a previous repair, we stop and show you before the price changes one cent. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every installation: if it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, for a full year after the job closes.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the line and mark every loose picket, test each gate hinge with a firm lift, and check whether a post moves when you push on it from the top. That tells us a lot before we even arrive. What you shouldn’t do is dig out a leaning Sterling post and try to reset it yourself. Vinyl posts carry a lot of tension from the rail system, and a post that springs free or drops a concrete footer on your foot is a bad afternoon. Same with gate spring hardware on aluminum styles: the tension can release fast enough to take a finger.

If you’ve already got a failing section and you’re in Orlando, the fastest move is to call us at (850) 809-0306, tell us what you’re seeing, and text a photo if you’ve got one. We’ll give you a straight answer on whether it’s a repair or a replace, and what it costs, before you commit to anything.
