Why Orlando Homeowners Choose PGT Construction

We provide independent PGT construction repair and service across Orlando, FL, with crews that know WinGuard and 500 Series products from the inside out. We’re not a PGT dealer or authorized service center, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a local contractor that has spent years pulling apart, rebuilding, and reinstalling PGT windows and doors in Central Florida’s hurricane-exposure zones, which means we fix what’s actually broken instead of selling you a full replacement you don’t need. Call (850) 809-0306 for a free estimate.

PGT earned its reputation in Florida for a reason. The company builds impact-rated windows and doors tested to hold up against windborne debris and pressure cycling that would shred a standard unit. But Orlando’s climate does things to even the best hardware. Heat, humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and the annual ritual of boarding up for hurricane season all put stress on frames, rollers, seals, and glazing beads. We see the same failure patterns repeat across neighborhoods from College Park to Lake Nona, and we’ve built our service approach around those realities.

Why Trust Sawyer Remodel Orlando for Your PGT Construction?

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Luca Romano started in this trade with a framing hammer in his hands before he could drive, and he trained at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending nearly two decades on Central Florida job sites. His crews work the same way he does: diagnose first, explain clearly, fix correctly. When a PGT WinGuard sliding door grinds or a 500 Series window fogs between the panes, we don’t guess. We take the unit apart far enough to see the actual failure, then tell you what it costs to fix versus replace, in writing, before any work begins.

We’re an independent PGT service provider, which matters more than most homeowners realize. A dealer tied to a manufacturer’s approval list has limits on what parts they can source and what repairs they’re allowed to recommend. We answer to you, not to a corporate service manual. If your PGT warranty is still active and OEM parts are the right call, we use genuine PGT hardware and glazing. If an older line is out of production and OEM stock is gone, we source US-tested aftermarket components that match or exceed the original spec. That flexibility keeps repair costs down and keeps perfectly good PGT frames in service longer.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Fix in Orlando

  • Binding or grinding WinGuard sliding glass doors. Orlando’s summer downpours wash fine silt and sandy grit into the bottom track of PGT WinGuard sliders. That grit works its way into the roller carriages, flat-spotting the nylon wheels and leaving you fighting a door that used to glide. We pull the panel, clean the track, and replace the roller assemblies with stainless-steel bearing carriages that hold up better than the originals in our conditions.
  • Cracked glazing beads on aluminum WinGuard frames. PGT’s aluminum WinGuard line uses glazing beads to hold the laminated impact glass in place. After enough tropical storm seasons, the repeated pressure cycling from high winds flexes the frame just enough to crack those beads, especially at the corners. Left alone, water creeps in and corrosion follows. We replace the beads and reseal the unit before the frame itself is compromised.
  • Fogged IGUs in older 500 Series windows. A 500 Series window that fogs between the panes has a failed insulated glass unit. In Orlando, the culprit is usually seal fatigue: the daily thermal swing between an air-conditioned interior at 74°F and exterior heat pushing 95°F flexes the seal until it lets go. Once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, you get condensation you can’t wipe off. We replace the IGU, not the whole window, whenever the frame and hardware are still sound.
  • Stripped or loose stainless screws on WinGuard compression plates. If you board up for hurricanes, you know those compression plates on the frame take screws every season. Over multiple boarding cycles, the threaded holes strip out or the screws loosen until they won’t hold torque. We repair the threads with proper inserts and replace hardware with the correct stainless fasteners so your openings stay properly rated when the next storm heads this way.
  • Corroded sills on older WinGuard frames. In neighborhoods built on drained wetlands, like Avalon Park and parts of Lake Nona, shallow groundwater and high humidity mean aluminum frames sitting near grade can corrode faster than expected. When the sill channel is so eaten up that rebuilding costs approach 70% of a new impact-rated unit, we tell you straight and recommend replacement instead of throwing money at a losing repair.

PGT Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

PGT built several product generations over the years, and parts availability varies a lot between them. For current WinGuard Vinyl and WinGuard Aluminum lines with active warranties, we use genuine PGT hardware and glazing, because that keeps the warranty intact and the engineering stays consistent. Rollers, weatherstripping, locking mechanisms, compression plates: if PGT still makes it and your warranty covers it, that’s what goes in.

For out-of-production PGT lines, which includes plenty of older 500 Series units still installed across Orlando, OEM stock has holes in it. PGT discontinued certain rollers and balance springs years ago. In those cases, we source US-tested aftermarket parts that match or beat the original specification, especially in high-wear components like stainless-steel bearing carriages. The honest rule we use is simple: if the frame is structurally sound and the failure is isolated to a replaceable component, repair it. If the frame is corroded through at the sill or the glazing channel is warped, replacement is cheaper in the long run than a patch job that fails again in eighteen months. Call (850) 809-0306 for a written quote before you decide either way.

Our PGT Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the unit on-site, removing the sash or sliding panel as needed to see the actual failure point. No guesswork, no “we’ll know more once we open it up” runaround. You get the diagnosis at the visit.
  2. 2
Written quote. Before any work starts, you get a line-item price in writing. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. This includes parts, labor, and any disposal fees.
  3. 3
Repair or installation. We handle the work with PGT-compatible parts and techniques, whether that means a roller swap on a WinGuard slider, an IGU replacement on a 500 Series window, or a full impact window installation with proper flashing and tie-downs.
  4. 4
Testing. Doors get cycled multiple times to confirm smooth operation. Windows get checked for proper sealing, drainage, and operation. Any pressure-rated unit we touch gets a functional check against its original performance standard.
  5. 5
Warranty. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s a full year of accountability after the job closes.

PGT Products We Service & Install in Orlando

We work on PGT WinGuard Vinyl and WinGuard Aluminum windows and doors, which are the two lines most common in Orlando’s hurricane-exposure zones. We also service the PGT 500 Series, a workhorse line from the 1990s and 2000s that’s still in thousands of Orlando homes, and the 700/900 Series architectural lines found in higher-end builds. We stock common rollers, weatherstripping, locks, and balance springs locally for faster turnaround. For impact window installation and full window replacement, we order units to spec, including custom sizes for older Orlando bungalows where standard dimensions don’t exist.

We Also Service These Brands

PGT is a big part of our work, but we’re not a one-brand shop. We install and service cabinetry from KraftMaid, countertops from Cambria and Silestone, and fixtures from Kohler. That cross-brand experience means we see how different manufacturers handle the same Florida conditions, and we bring that perspective to every PGT job we take on.

FAQs – PGT Construction Service in Orlando

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

Why is my PGT WinGuard sliding door getting stiff only in the summer?

Summer stiffness in a PGT WinGuard slider is almost always track contamination plus thermal expansion of the aluminum or vinyl frame. Orlando’s afternoon thunderstorms wash sand and silt into the bottom track, and when the frame heats up in 90°F+ sun, the metal expands just enough to tighten the roller contact. The fix is a deep track cleaning and, in most cases, new roller carriages with stainless-steel bearings. Call (850) 809-0306 and we’ll diagnose it before you end up replacing the whole door.

Can you replace just the glass in a PGT impact window, or do I need the whole sash?

You can replace just the insulated glass unit in most PGT impact windows, including WinGuard and 500 Series models, as long as the sash frame and glazing channel are intact. We replace the IGU, not the whole window, whenever the frame and hardware still hold up. If the frame is corroded or the glazing bead seat is cracked, a full sash or window replacement makes more sense. We’ll show you the failure before we quote either path.

Do PGT windows still work after being boarded up for hurricanes?

Yes, they generally keep working, but repeated boarding cycles take a toll. The compression plates on WinGuard frames receive screws every season, and after enough cycles, those threads strip or the stainless fasteners lose torque. The windows themselves are rated for windborne debris, but the boarding hardware is a maintenance point. We repair stripped threads and replace worn fasteners so the openings stay pressure-rated. If you board up annually, have that hardware checked every two or three seasons.

What does a “bowed” PGT window frame mean?

A bowed PGT frame usually means the frame has deflected under pressure cycling from tropical storm winds, or the rough opening shifted due to slab movement in Orlando’s expansive clay soils. In either case, the frame is no longer square, which puts stress on the glazing and can compromise the pressure rating. We inspect to find the cause: if it’s frame deflection from wind, replacement is usually the right call; if it’s structural movement, you may need shimming or a framing repair before the window is reinstalled.

Can you match old PGT bronze or champagne frames with new parts?

We can match the finish on older PGT bronze and champagne frames in most cases, though exact color consistency depends on the age and sun exposure of the original frame. For visible hardware like locks and handles, we source factory-matched or custom-finished components. For seals, rollers, and internal hardware, finish doesn’t matter and function is what we optimize. Expect some visible parts to show a slight color variance on frames that are 15-plus years old.

How much does PGT construction cost in Orlando?

PGT service costs in Orlando vary widely by scope. Emergency and storm-damage repairs run $400 – $1,800, while a full window replacement ranges from $4,500 to $15,000, and impact window installation runs $8,000 – $25,000 depending on how many openings and which PGT line you’re installing. Here’s the breakdown:

Service Typical Range in Orlando
Emergency & Storm Damage $400 – $1,800
Window Replacement $4,500 – $15,000
Impact Window Installation $8,000 – $25,000
